Smiths Detection has announced that it has been selected to take part in an EU Horizon programme to develop a portable screening technology for maritime customs border control. The project, known as METEOR, will focus on the development of a vapour-based portable scanner for the non-intrusive inspection of large-volume shipments, such as shipping containers. The new technology aims to provide fast detection and identification of narcotics and other known threats, without needing to open the containers. Smiths Detection will provide consultation and expertise in the field as part of the consortium.
