Classical meets tech: Musicians merge tradition and innovation in GV show.

TLDR: Musicians at Grand Valley State University are incorporating classical structure with modern technology in their performances. The recent “Echoes of Time” recital featured flutist Abigail Walsh accompanied by pianist Sidney Yin. The performers explore the relationship between past and present music and blend classical structure with contemporary perspectives and modern technologies. One of the standout pieces from the performance was “Rapids,” written by Christian Glascock, a flutist at GVSU. The piece utilized modern technology to create a delay effect, allowing Walsh to play two eighth notes behind herself. This unique sound is rooted in something “intrinsic” and has been pioneered by Glascock. His composition of “Rapids” is featured in a book he and Walsh recently collaborated on.
