LR gives thumbs up to Amogy’s ammonia cracking innovation.

February 12, 2024

Amogy has received approval from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its ammonia cracking technology. The technology involves splitting liquid ammonia into its base elements of hydrogen and nitrogen, which is then used to generate high-performance power in a fuel cell. LR’s approval confirms that the technology is feasible for maritime applications. Amogy will now proceed with the component testing phase outlined in its Technology Qualification Plan. LR and Amogy have collaborated for several years, with previous verification and approval in principle for the technology. This ammonia cracking technology could play an important role in helping the maritime industry meet its target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
