Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is using new technology called the Inari Medical FlowTriever to remove blood clots in its Cardiovascular unit. When a large blood clot ends up in the lungs, it cuts off the blood flow that goes through the lung and needs to get to the left side of the heart. The Inari tool is placed in the groin and directed to the lungs where the blood clot is, allowing the clot to be removed. This technology has been in use for the past month and has already shown positive results, with patients experiencing instant improvement and a resolution of shortness of breath.
Blood clots in the lung typically originate in the leg, causing leg swelling, before traveling to the lungs and causing shortness of breath. If someone experiences these symptoms, seeking medical attention is advised.
