TLDR:
- Clairity Technology, a direct air capture startup, raised $6.5 million in a seed round to scale its CO2 capture solution.
- The company utilizes solid sorbents for CO2 capture, focusing on efficiency and low-cost approaches compared to traditional processes.
New direct air capture startup, Clairity Technology, based in California and founded in 2022, raised $6.5 million in a seed round led by Initialized Capital and Lowercarbon Capital to develop its CO2 capture solution. The company plans to build its first pilot plant in 2024 to capture 100 tons of CO2 per year. Utilizing solid sorbents coated with carbonate salts that react with CO2 from the air, Clairity aims to optimize performance through material science and systems engineering to decrease energy intensity. The company’s diluted CO2 stream can be sequestered into concrete, stored underground, turned into rocks, or used in sustainable aviation fuels, offering scalability to remove up to a billion tons of CO2. By partnering with CarbonBuilt, Clairity’s captured CO2 is fed into a process that chemically reacts with a low-carbon binder for permanent storage in finished concrete.
